I.D. Holders Are Available In Multiple Styles For Any Workplace

Let’s face it. It’s really hard to get excited about badge holders. After all, they’re usually nothing more than a piece of plastic used to hold an I.D. badge or name card. They’re simply a vehicle for the identification they carry. They can be clipped onto clothing, worn on lanyards or badge reels or even pinned to clothing. “Excitement” and “I.D. holders” don’t belong in the same sentence, no matter how you slice it.

But like many brilliantly realized common products that are everywhere in our lives – think clothespins, #2 pencils, paperclips – the simple I.D. holders are great at the one thing they’re designed to do. In this case, that’s holding identification documents at eye level.

As security concerns have risen in schools, businesses and other organizations throughout the world in recent years, many organizations have implemented requirements that employees, students and sometimes even visitors wear visible I.D. badges at all times on the premises. I.D. holders make it possible to keep such I.D. handy, yet out of the way when performing necessary tasks.

Each style of carrying I.D. holders has its advantages and disadvantages. Clip-on I.D. holders, for example, don’t damage clothing, and can easily be clipped to a shirt pocket or collar. However, they can be knocked loose or sometimes fall off without the wearer realizing it.

Pin-backed I.D. holders, on the other hand, can’t easily be lost and offer very secure attachment. But they do make holes in clothing, which can make them unacceptable to some people.

Two of the most common ways of carrying I.D. holders are on lanyards and badge reels. These are the two most convenient ways of wearing I.D. badges for most people. Many people find them comfortable to wear and convenient to use. Lanyards and badge reels keep the I.D. holders readily visible and accessible while keeping the I.D. out of the way in the workplace or classroom.

With lanyards, I.D. holders clip onto the lanyards, which the wearers then wear around their necks. The lanyards keep the I.D. holders at a level where staff and security personnel can easily see them.

Lanyards can be ordered in a variety of colors and styles. They can be left blank or imprinted with custom messages. Students, for example, are likely to appreciate having lanyard I.D. holders imprinted with their school’s team colors and mascot.

For those who find lanyards uncomfortable, or in workplaces where something hanging around the neck could pose a safety hazard, badge reels are an excellent alternative way to carry I.D. holders.

Badge reels allow wearers to clip them to a belt loop or pocket, and keep their I.D. holders easily accessible. Unlike lanyards, however, badge reels don’t allow the I.D. holders to swing freely. Instead they retract the cord attached to the badge holders, keeping them close to the wearer. Badge reels are an excellent way to carry key cards, because they can easily be extended for swiping the cards through key card readers.
